Prompt vs deferred mahr (muaccel & müeccel)

The difference between prompt (muaccel) and deferred (müeccel) mahr, when each is delivered, and why keeping a record matters.

Mahr is divided by time of delivery. Prompt mahr (muʿajjal) is delivered at the time of the marriage; deferred mahr (muʾajjal) is paid at a later date or when the marriage ends.

Why does recording matter for deferred mahr?

Keeping records can help the parties keep track of deferred mahr and partial payments. mehir.co supports payment declarations; a digital settlement approved by the recipient is not available yet. A one-sided declaration does not verify receipt.
